Gypsum

Gypsum, gypsum stone, raw gypsum, natural gypsum or aljez, is a mineral composed of hydrated calcium sulfate; also, a sedimentary rock of chemical origin. It is a very common mineral and can form mono-mineral sedimentary rocks.

The mineral gypsum crystallizes in the monoclinic system, in prismatic habit crystals; tabular parallel to the second pinacoid; rhombic with bevelled edges on the faces. It appears in crystals, sometimes large, twinned at arrowhead and spearhead; also in spastic masses and aggregates. Frequently easily exfoliable (selenite); It can be sucrose and translucent (alabaster), colorless, white, or different colors, grayish, yellowish, reddish, or even black, depending on the inclusions it contains.
